Dancing into the Self — Dance Meditation Workshop

Reflection and Vision

On the evening of September 8, 2025, as the golden light of sunset poured gently into the Portola Springs Community Center in Irvine, Southern California, we gathered — not for performance, not for technique, but simply to meet ourselves through dance.

Led by dance and body-philosophy artist Rongna Su and Guqin musician Bei Bei, participants were guided into a tender yet powerful journey.

On this journey, we set aside our labels and roles, allowing the body to speak and the breath to become our rhythm.

Through Ms. Su’s gentle yet grounded guidance, we found stillness in reflection and smiles in motion — imagining ourselves as seeds breaking through the soil, growing into trees bathed in sunlight. With each stretching and turning, we rediscovered our connection with the body, the present moment, and the quiet landscape within.

We followed the energy of “a seed growing into a great tree,” allowing movement to unfold naturally and the spirit to soar freely.

Then, we let our sensations take form — becoming lines, colors, and words. As the lights dimmed, the sharing circle began. There were open conversations, knowing smiles — but no judgment, no comparison. Only the body’s most honest expression, stretching like branches toward freedom. Participants shared their heartfelt reflections:

“I’m a full-time mother, and I can’t remember the last time I focused so completely on myself.”

“I drew my favorite childhood picture — Little Chick Pecking Rice. It always brings me peace and happiness. As I moved to the music just now, I felt as if I had stepped right into that painting.”

“I’m a STEM student who usually works with data and formulas. This is my first time realizing how dance and meditation can intertwine — it felt magical!”

We look forward to the day when dance mediation can become an accessible language of inner reflection for everyone.

May we continue to let our bodies be the vessel, our breath the oars, and build a moving sanctuary of mindfulness amid the chaos of the world.
